Were the two teens of driving age? Or at least, was the daughter? Perhaps next week, the Mom will send the teens out shopping, with the girl in charge. Or if not, maybe Mom will stay out in the car reading, and send the two siblings in to shop, reminding her son "Remember, She is in charge, and I don't want top hear about any grief, or you will catch plenty when we get home."
