One thing which I am not sure has been mentioned is that high school girls' wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the United States. Whereas in past years, girls who wanted to take up the sport had no option other than to compete against boys, they now have their own separate leagues and state tournament. What this does is allow girls who do not necessarily initially possess the skills and experience to become champions in the sport to continue to compete. Wrestling is not an easy sport to learn, as often the wrestler must learn what NOT to do before they learn what TO do. But with adequate coaching and hard work, anyone can become a skilled wrestler, and in time perhaps even a champion.
As I noted the decrease in participation by boys in recent years, I welcomed this, and still feel that girls are going to save high school wrestling on a national basis.
